Race 1 Chelmsford 17:30 Handicap (Class 6) 7f
Much better signs switched to handicaps, looking a rather unlucky loser when second of 9 in nursery at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 19 days ago. 3 lb higher now but she has to be very high on the shortlist.
Winner at Kempton (7f) in November. 7/2, respectable fifth of 9 in nursery at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 19 days ago, weakening when hampered final 1f. Blinkers/tongue tie reached for now and claims of getting in the mix.
Showed little all 3 starts in turf maidens at up to 7f, latterly when well beaten sixth of 7 at Epsom in July. Gelded subsequently and cheekpieces now enlisted so worth a precautionary market check for any positive vibes on nursery bow.
Offered little in finishing nearer lasr than first all 3 starts in maiden/novice events at up to 7f. However, does represent a shrewd stable so no big surprise where he capable of doing better now handicapping. Betting should prove a useful guide.
Phoenix Reach colt who didn't offer a great deal of encouragement in a trio of starts in maiden/novice company on turf during the summer. Given a break ahead of nursery debut but progress required if he's to feature.
€80,000 purchase who showed ability when fifth of 7 on debut in a Chepstow novice (6f) in September. Well held both starts since but she's not a bad sort on paper and no surprise to see better now handicapping/equipped with a first-time visor.
Lightly-raced maiden. Sixth of 12 in nursery (25/1) at this course (6f) 30 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time.
Lightly-raced maiden. Visored for 1st time tongue strap on for 1st time, first run since leaving Jane Chapple-Hyam when fourth of 11 in nursery at Newcastle (6f, 25/1) 48 days ago. Gelded subsequently.
Galileo Gold filly. No great promise in in novice/maiden events at up to 7f on AW/turf during the summer. Does at least now get a crack at handicaps from a lowly mark so worth a check in the betting back from a break.
Thrice-raced maiden. 150/1, last of 8 in novice event at this course (5f) 63 days ago, soon steadied and always behind. Significant step up in trip/fitting of blinkers needs to have positive effect now.
Little impact in handful of starts for Gay Kelleway and he fared no better when tenth of 11 in nursery at Newcastle (6f) on yard debut 34 days ago. Needs to step up a good deal to figure even from this basement mark.
Race 2 Chelmsford 19:30 Handicap (Class 6) 6f
Lightly-raced maiden. Hooded for 1st time, creditable second of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (5f, AW, 3/1) 8 days ago, headway 1f out and keeping on. Less exposed than most and expected to feature again.
3-time C&D winner. Capitalised on reduced mark when landing 9-runner handicap at this C&D (7/4) 7 days ago, driven out. No surprise to see him out under a penalty and claims again in this groove.
Arrives here in good form, gaining second C&D success from last 3 starts under this rider 7 days ago, well on top finish. Another holding sound claims once more under a penalty.
Enjoyed a fine second half of this year, making it 3 wins from last 4 starts in handicaps at Southwell (6f) in August, challenging over 1f out and battling well. Mark has crept up a little more but he's not underestimated back from a break.
Michael & David
Tongue strap on for 1st time, first run since leaving Ismail Mohammed when respectable fourth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 7/1) 12 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time and return to 6f a likely plus back on last winning mark.
C&D winner. Latest win at Yarmouth (6f) in August. 9/1, respectable seventh of 15 in handicap back at that venue (6f, soft) 51 days ago. Mark is steadily easing now returned to AW.
Maiden. Not disgraced when fourth of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f, 40/1) 12 days ago, weakening when hampered inside final 1f. Steps back up in trip now.
Blinkered for 1st time, eighth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 16/1) 9 days ago, short of room 4f out but ultimately making little impression. Headgear discarded now.
Last of 16 in handicap at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 50/1) 66 days ago. Needs to get back on track following another 2-month break but he's a tricky drawn to deal with.
Last of 11 in handicap (66/1) at Southwell (7.1f) in September, never involved. Absent subsequently and others arrive with more pressing claims despite career-low mark.
4-y-o who boasts little in the way of solid form, seventh of 11 in handicap (100/1) at Brighton (5.3f, good) in May. Best watched back from 6 months off.
