Race 1 Sandown 12:40 Handicap Chase (Class 3) 24f

2541 Valsheda
Progressive young staying chaser who scored with plenty in hand in novice handicap at Ffos Las (23.8f) when last seen in March. Open to plenty more improvement and his claims are crystal clear in an ordinary-looking race for the grade.
12-0Mr William BiddickNicky Hendersonlocked0.91/10.83/19
2235 Step Back
Former Bet365 Gold Cup winner at this venue. Is well into the veteran stage of his career now but he wasn't disgraced when fourth in last season's renewal of that corresponding race when last seen in April. Blinkers worn then replaced by regular cheekpieces. Record fresh a bit off-putting, though.
11-11Miss Lily Mark Bradstocklocked4.5/13.5/122
242 Le Breuil
Nowhere near the force of old (former National Hunt Chase winner) but has made the most of a couple of good opportunities this year, including on return at Huntingdon (23.6f). Will find life tougher here but, on the plus side, his yard continues in fine form.
11-12Miss Megan FoxBen Paulinglocked5.5/14.5/118
1963 Rolling Dylan
Not one to rely on as a rule but proved he retains plenty of ability last season, winning 2 extended 3m military amateur rider events over C&D. Let down by his jumping at Worcester when last seen in May but could bounce back on his return, especially with his yard going well.
11-12Miss Ella HerbisonPhilip Hobbslocked8/112/150
274 Rocco
Ended a long losing run when springing a 40/1 surprise in the Badger Beers at Wincanton last season. Completely lost his form thereafter and ran poorly in latest renewal of that corresponding event on his reappearance. Lots to prove.
11-11Mr James TurnerNigel locked10/118/180
196 I See You Well
Enjoyed a productive 2021/22 campaign, gaining his third win and his first away from Plumpton in 3 seasons at Fontwell (26f) in April. Has yet to fully fire this term, however, and his yard remains quiet.

Race 2 Sandown 13:10 Conditions Hurdle (Class 2) 16f

804 Kansas Du Berlais
Fourth of 10 to Libeccio in listed newcomers race at Auteuil on hurdling debut, battling on after making lot of running. Has left David Cottin since. Should improve, and is plainly the one to beat for a yard that's won this race twice in recent years.
11-2Jamie MooreGary Moorelocked0.91/10.53/142
311 Non Stop
Fair on Flat (stays 1m) and made ideal start in this sphere when winning 7-runner juvenile at Warwick a month ago. Could do better, so merits respect despite the penalty.
11-7Harry CobdenJoe Tizzardlocked5/15/10
548 Planet Legend
Fairly useful and reliable maiden on Flat, stays 2m, creditable fourth in handicap last time. Sold from James Ferguson 30,000 gns later in October. Interesting hurdling newcomer.
11-2Sam Twiston-DaviesDr Richard Newlandlocked6.5/18.5/131
769 Sabyinyo
Dam sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 21f) Westbrook Bertie Fairly useful on Flat, stays 1m, won minor event in May but down the field in handicaps since. Has left Mick Channon.
11-2Marc GoldsteinSheena Westlocked10/120/1100
582 Benjamin Bear
Dam half-sister to useful hurdler (stays 3m) Kashmir Peak: Fair on Flat, stays 1¼m, won in summer, well held last time. Worth a market check on hurdling bow.
11-2Tom CannonAlan Kinglocked12/122/183
197 Penna Rossa
Half-brother to useful hurdler Jeff Kidder. Modest handicapper on Flat and showed something to work on when fourth at a big price in a 7-runner juvenile at Fontwell on hurdling debut. Needs to improve markedly from that, though.
11-2Charlie PriceCamilla Poultonlocked18/128/156
2110 Tying The Knot
Fair maiden on the Flat who failed to come up to market expectations when a well-held third in a juvenile at Southwell 3 weeks ago. Needs to leave that form well behind.
11-2Gavin SheehanAlan Kinglocked18/133/183
193 Havaila
Fairly useful form on Flat (should stay 1¾m+). Sold from Sir Michael Stoute 62,000 gns in July but disappointed in a juvenile at Fontwell on his first go over hurdles. Not one to write off.
11-2Harry ReedMilton Harrislocked18/118/10
335 Midnight Train
Fair on Flat (stays 1¼m), winning twice in 2022 for Clive Cox. Stopped quickly when pulled up in a juvenile at Huntingdon on hurdling debut but he's in good hands and it's too soon to write him off.
11-2James BowenNicky Hendersonlocked20/112/140
466 My Friend Woody
Well held in varied events on Flat and makes little appeal on his first try over hurdles.
11-2Paul O'BrienJean-Rene Auvraylocked150/1150/10

Race 3 Sandown 13:45 Handicap Chase (Class 3) 20f

131 Milan Bridge
Reached a fairly useful level in landing 3 of his 5 starts over hurdles, runner-up on return behind Remastered at Aintree. Walked over on intended chase debut at Ascot 2 weeks ago and he's a useful prospect for this game. Tongue tie fitted.
11-10Harry CobdenPaul Nichollslocked1.25/10.73/142
364 Gloire D'athon
Really found his feet for his new yard in recent months, supplementing his Huntingdon success in June with another impressive display at Worcester (20f) in October. Assessor applies further pressure but he's certainly a player in his hat-trick bid.
11-6Tom ScudamoreSarah Humphreylocked2.75/13/19
3632 Fable
Irish point winner who made a bright start over hurdles during early 2021, landing 2 of her 3 starts in mares' maiden/novice events at up to 3m. Absent since being pulled up here 12 months ago so interesting to see what the market makes of her now chasing after a wind op.
11-8James BowenNicky Hendersonlocked4/17/175
3213 Raffle Ticket
Lightly-raced point winner who cemented positive start over hurdles when landing a maiden at Huntingdon (20.6f) back in spring 2021. Not disgraced when third under a penalty at Wetherby (19.7f) in January and not ruled out now going chasing 10 months on.

Race 4 Sandown 14:20 Novices Hurdle (Class 1) 20f

235 Maximilian
Successful on his sole start in Irish points and defied a penalty at the first attempt in making it 5/5 in various disciplines in novice hurdle at Bangor (23f) last month. Sets the benchmark.
11-2Brian HughesDonald McCainlocked1.63/12.75/169
381 Henri The Second
Looked a smart prospect when winning first 2 starts in bumpers last season but shaped as if amiss in Grade 2 at Aintree final start. Promising second of 16 in novice at Chepstow on hurdles bow on return 38 days ago, a serious error as the race was taking shape looking most costly. Should improve.
11-2Harry CobdenPaul Nichollslocked2.5/11.75/130
274 Man At Work
€18,000 3-y-o, £155,000 4-y-o, Workforce gelding. Fell last sole start in Irish points (Mar 13) but looked potentially useful sent hurdling when making a winning debut in novice at Aintree over this trip, delivered late to run down the imposing favourite. Of firm interest.
11-2Tom ScudamoreDavid Pipelocked2.75/12.75/10
272 Henry's Friend
Won a weak maiden with ease at Aintree (good) on debut in May and better form when 6¼ lengths third of 7 to Man At Work in novice hurdle there under a penalty last month. 7 lb better off with the winner here so not taken lightly.
11-2Kielan WoodsBen Paulinglocked14/18.5/139
356 Park This One
Point winner who confirmed debut promise when off the mark in bumper at Exeter in April and made a successful debut over hurdles back from 7 months off when making all at Uttoxeter 5 weeks ago, jumping well and showing good attitude. Respected.
11-2Gavin SheehanJamie Snowdenlocked22/120/19
363 I'd Like To Know
Runner-up on his sole start in points and made promising start when winning 13-runner novice hurdle at Worcester (20f, heavy) 36 days ago, kept up to work. Open to progress but this much tougher.

Race 5 Sandown 14:55 Handicap Chase (Class 3) 16f

414 Corrigeen Rock
Point winner who made a successful start over hurdles at Kelso last season and showed better form in defeat after, including when second at this venue in March. Fell at the fifth on chasing debut/reappearance at Perth but made no mistake at Kelso (17.1f) a month on. Can rate higher in this sphere.
11-8Derek FoxLucinda Russelllocked2.25/12.25/10
257 Casa Tall
3-time winner over fences who lost his way towards the end of last season, but could be all the better for his considerate Kempton reappearance and is now operating from a mark 4 lb below his last winning one. Interesting with his yard going well.
11-3James BowenTom Georgelocked5/14/120
188 Darebin
3-time C&D winner, including this corresponding event in 2020, while he was also runner-up last year. However, has struggled since then and looks opposable from 3 lb out of the handicap with headgear left off.
10-2Jamie MooreGary Moorelocked5.5/13/145
285 Rose Sea Has
Front runner who landed a couple of small-field events at Fontwell and Wetherby in March. Has returned in similar form and ought to remain competitive from his current mark, though his yard remain quiet.
11-7Sam Twiston-DaviesDr Richard Newlandlocked6/15/117
2451 Heartbreak Kid
Opened his account at the eighth attempt over fences at Sedgefield in January. Found plenty for pressure to follow up at Uttoxeter (2m) 13 days later but run of good form came to a halt at Kelso and had no excuses at Ayr on final outing. Mark probably still high enough.
12-2Brian HughesDonald McCainlocked8.5/114/165
1426 Clondaw Bertie
Fair maiden hurdler in Ireland who upped his game a notch sent chasing when collared only close home in Downpatrick maiden just over a year ago. Wasn't at his best back over hurdles there in July and has since left Henry de Bromhead (for £10,500).
11-5Gavin SheehanPat Murphylocked11/122/1100
143 High Up In The Air
Progressed in leaps and bounds over fences in 2020/21, completing 5-timer from the front at Fontwell (19.5f). Has run just twice since, pulled up on both occasions, but it's worth noting he's been ridden with more restraint than suits. Not written off with useful 3 lb claimer back on board.
11-12Niall HoulihanGary Moorelocked18/19/150
There are 7 runners in this race.

Race 6 Sandown 15:30 Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 16f

3253 Raymond Tusk
Smart on the Flat (second in the John Porter in April). Yet to meet expectations over hurdles but may do a lot better now handicapping.
11-11Tom CannonAlan Kinglocked2/14/1100
271 Hugos New Horse
Looked good prospect when winning a bumper last season and positive start over hurdles, second at Chepstow on reappearance/hurdling debut before landing odds at Wincanton. More to come now handicapping.
12-0Harry CobdenPaul Nichollslocked2.75/11.62/141
215 Galahad Threepwood
Fairly useful on the Flat for Mick Channon. Just fair form over hurdles to date but shaped well when fifth of 19 at Cheltenham (16.4f, good, 12/1) on handicap bow 21 days ago, running on after some novicey mistakes. Should have more to offer.
11-4Kielan WoodsBen Paulinglocked4/15/125
212 Mothill
Fairly useful Flat winner in France who landed odds in Fontwell novice success in May. Followed up on handicap debut at Chepstow (2m) before good fourth of 19 at Cheltenham (16.4f, good) 21 days ago. Respected.
12-0Sam Twiston-DaviesNeil Mulhollandlocked5.5/16/19
2804 Sadler's Bay
Promising third of 12 in novice hurdle (100/1) at Exeter (soft) on NH debut in January and similar form when third there following month. Off 9 months. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Remains with potential.
11-4Brian HughesTom Grettonlocked11/111/10
217 Alioski
Gained reward for consistency when landing 2m Worcester maiden in June and ran well on handicap hurdle debut from 4 lb out of the weights there (20f) 3 months later. Gained a second win on the level at Southwell before not disgraced at Cheltenham 3 weeks ago. Back down in class.
10-8Paul O'BrienGary Brownlocked25/116/136
186 Order Of St John
Flat winner who got off the mark over hurdles with a narrow success in 4-runner maiden at Leicester under this rider 18 days ago. On a fair mark back in a handicap.
10-11Finn LambertD J Jeffreyslocked28/118/136
348 Universal Secret
Proved that his Exeter third in January was no fluke when runner-up in a Wincanton novice the following month. However, in nothing like the same form since.
